Why so long between posts?

If you’ve been following what we’ve been up to on the blog, you’ll have noticed the frequency of posts drop to zero over the past month. There’s a few reasons for this but essentially, they all boil down to laziness!

To be fair – and someone has to – putting together each post takes upwards of two hours. That includes copying the photos from phones and camera to the laptop, reviewing and deleting the good ones, writing the text, adding the best photos, uploading the post (this step alone can take an hour if the internet connection is slow), and finally, fixing the layout (I’ve not found a reliable WYSIWYG html editor, certainly not Windows Live Writer), adding captions, spell-checking and proof-reading.

And I make it look so effortless!

The last post – the Mekong Delta tour – was a monster. I reckon it took closer to 6 hours to complete, over several days. During that period, my parents joined us for three weeks so a lot of my energy and spare time was taken up entertaining them (subtext: it’s all their fault).

To be honest, there really is no-one to blame but myself. And now I’ve made a rod for my own back because there’s a pile of stuff to tell you about. There's our Cambodian adventures in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, entertaining my parents in Bangkok, Koh Samui and Chiang Mai and a very eventful trip to see the elephants including my brushes with death (much to the consternation of my wife and mother).

Luckily our next stop in Chiang Rai is four days of doing not very much so I should be able to catch up. Our guesthouse has no internet so expect a flurry of posts in about a week’s time when I come back online.

In the meantime, here’s a quick taster of what’s coming up.

Oh, and in other news, my dead iPhone miraculously sprang back into life last week. Karen spotted a mobile phone repair shop in Koh Samui, so I dug it out thinking I’d take it in for repair. As I’d done every few days at first, but not for the past month, I plugged it into the power to see if it was working and hey presto!

I’m guessing this means it was a battery glitch and all I had to do was wait until it was completely dead – something I could have done months ago had the iPhone had a removable battery…
